Reflection Questions:
Luke records this account of Jesus’ interaction with Zacchaeus in two parallel parts. In the first part Jesus comes to Jericho, Zacchaeus tries to see Jesus, and the crowd gets in the way. In the second part Jesus comes to Zacchaeus’ house, the crowd grumbles, and Zacchaeus makes a declaration of repentance and reparation. What lessons) can be gleaned from each perspective of Jesus, Zacchaeus, and the crowd?
What does Jesus’ interaction with Zacchaeus teach us about how Christ relates to us as broken, sinful people?
How significant is it that God shows compassion to sinners? How does this reality shape your life?
What things change in Zacchaeus’ life as a result of his encounter with Jesus? Why do you think he made these changes? What do these changes teach Christians today about how we handle relationships with people (including strangers) and how we handle money and possessions?
How does view salvation as wholeness or healing shape how we might read this text?
