The Gospel and Discipleship
February 25, 2024
- Jesus as the True Vine
- Disciples as Branches
- Prescribing Fruitful Discipleship
Reflection Questions:
Describe discipleship in your own words.
What does John 15:1-8 have to do with discipleship?
What does it mean to “abide” in Jesus?
What happens if we fail to “abide” in Jesus?
What significance does the imagery of a vine hold? What might it have held for those first disciples to whom Jesus spoke these words?
Jesus is clearly using metaphor here. He is not literally claiming to be a vine. So, in your own words, describe what the metaphor means. How does this play out in our lives in the 21st century in Clearwater, Kansas? What might it mean for us to produce fruit? What might it mean for us to be pruned off?
What does it mean for disciples to bear fruit? What does fruit look like and consist of? How can a person know if they are really bearing fruit?
What are some things you can do to open yourself up to the work of God in abiding and going out in Christ?
This week, look for 1-1-1 opportunities: 1 thought-1 word-1 act. Spend time reflecting (1 thought) on one aspect of the gospel. Share your thought (1 word) with at least one person (whether they are Christian or not). Do one thing (1 act) that demonstrates response or gratitude for God’s good news.
